Making a home-grown business app safe to change

DHF Tyres runs its workshop — jobs, quotes, invoices, POS and stock — on an in-house app. We added the engineering foundations — CI/CD, automated tests and reliable transactions — so it can keep growing.

The challenge

The business runs on its own app every day, but it had grown organically: deploys were manual, there were no automated tests, and some screens had become slow.

They needed to keep improving it without risking the system the whole workshop depends on.

What we built

All code in source control, with production deploying only from the repository

Database performance fixes across the most-used screens

Multi-step money and stock workflows made atomic, so they can't be left half-finished

CI on every change: automated tests, code scanning and preview checks

Post-deploy smoke tests with automatic rollback, release runbooks and a local dev environment with synthetic data

Results

96.7s → 14ms

Customer lookup time after the database fix

200+ automated checks

Database tests run on every change before it ships

Auto-rollback

A failed deploy check rolls production back automatically

Reliable transactions

Core financial workflows tested against mid-transaction failures
